1. Spend longer than recommended in the teaching manuals for important things
2. Topics that will be built upon later need more time
3. Prerequisites need more time
4. Start with the complex, if students don’t get it tell them that you will break it down for them and it may take a little while
5. Encourage students that with time and practice they will get it
6. Celebrate small steps forward
